Cascade Mountain is perhaps the easiest peak (of the '46') to reach that has a totally alpine summit. It is a short hike from the trailhead on Rte 73 near Cascade Pass to the summit. Although barely over 4000 feet, the summit block is totally treeless and has a nice alpine feel to it. There are no big mountains right near Cascade, so one must look a bit farther away to see big peaks. A very nice peak. This is also a good peak to do in conjunction with a traverse from Keene Valley over Porter Mountain.
