Return to Germany
Friday, June 21
Our time in Switzerland was now over. It had been a very busy week of playing in the mountains, and we were somewhat sad to see it end. Although not all of our objectives had been achieved, we still felt that we had accomplished quite a bit.

After a quick breakfast, we spent a couple of hours packing up and doing a thorough clean-up of the flat. The least we could do in the face of Miriam and her family's extreme generosity (for letting us stay in this great spot) was to ensure that we left it spotless. Finally, at 10 a.m., we returned the keys to the next-door neighbours and headed out.

As a final activity, we drove across the Vorderrhein to the high terrace on the opposite side, where a small highway linked the communities of Obersaxen. Driving along this highway, we were able to get a final view across to Waltensburg and the flat. It was then on to the main highway near Chur, down the Rheintal to Lake Constance, across a small sliver of Austria, and into southern Germany.

We made our way to the southern town of Friedrichshafen to drop Brian off. Brian would be parting ways with us here - he was scheduled to visit with former neighbours before heading back to Canada in a few days time (Brian had lived as an ex-pat in southern Germany for some years in the early 2000s, while he was working for Nortel). We, on the other hand, were continuing on to Miriam's home town of Neiderstotzingen, where the next phase of our trip was about to begin.
