A first-time visit to a new Adirondack fire tower peak: Saint Regis Mountain.

Taking advantage of a short clear-weather window, we started in the morning dark, the air clear and very chilly (-27C/-17F) and broke trail through fresh snow to the summit, arriving about 25 minutes after sunrise. Apart from the cold, conditions were excellent, with beautiful light and great clarity.

The cold limited our time in the little belfry at the top of the fire tower; and, after a bit more time near the ground-level summit, we headed back down, greatly enjoying the luxury of a now-packed out trail. We made good time back to the trail head, finishing 4 hours and 45 minutes after starting out.
