A Downhill run of the Cascade-Porter Traverse, from Route 73 down to Marcy Field.

Started off on a chilly February day with the promise of clear skies by noon. Trail was hard-packed so started in microspikes. Put snowshoes on as the trail softened at about 3500 feet. First lookout showed skies had completely cleared; wonderful views.

Cascade summit was a bit breezy so felt cold but a few extra layers kept the elements at bay. After Cascade summit, returned to main ridge trail and headed towards Porter. Trail was nicely broken out to Porter.

East of Porter we were wondering if we had trail-breaking to do but turned out that a couple of people had already done so. Going was therefore quite easy. Steep descent down to Blueberry was in good shape for some butt sliding.

After a final break at Blueberry's expansive open areas, began steep final descent towards Marcy Field. Snowpack dwindled to a dusting and so returned to microspikes. Finished at a reasonable time, just after 4pm. First time doing this in the downhill direction. A bit hard on the toes, but nice!
