Crossover Day
Monday, May 13
Monday, May 13: Crossover Day. Crossover in the sense that today, my brother George was flying in to Italy, in preparation for my departure from Italy the following morning. I was handing the baton to him, so to speak, and he'd be staying for the remainder of my mom's time in Italy.
Elvira and I went to pick up George at the airport in Naples. He came through the arrival doors all beaming and smiling, ready to do his duty as an official Anna Lavigne chaperone. I helped him pick up his rental car, then drove back in convoy (he in his rental car, me in mine) back to Avellino.

We spent the rest of the day just hanging around... this afternoon and evening was the only stretch of time where all three of us chaperones would be in Italy at the same time with my mother. In fact, having three of my mother's six children with her in Italy was a notable record - never before had that many of us been in Italy at the same time.
Other highlights of the day included getting to drive Giovanni's historic little 1968 Fiat 500, and having one final meal with all of us present - hosted by Filomena and Giovanni. Filomena had grown to enjoy having me around this past week, and tried really hard to convince me to somehow stay around. I really could sense their hospitality and warmth, and I felt a bit bad giving them the news that yes indeed, I was going to head back home. But certainly I felt very welcome, and I'm sure their kind words and warmth will encourage me to visit more often.
