We make good time, and we arrive at the shores of Round Pond (which is indeed quite round) at about 6:30 p.m. We're clearly fast enough to have avoided any possibility of finishing after sunset, so we take a few moments to get some nice pictures of the beautiful late day light on the calm pond.
After Round Pond, the trail ascends a small barrier of terrain (that would otherwise allow round pond to drain to the east), and then starts to descend towards route 73, gradually angling north and descending to it at a very oblique angle. Knowing that the car was parked in entirely the opposite direction, down south along route 73, I don some running shoes and ask the others to take my pack and bag. I then bushwack straight down to the highway, while the others proceed to the trailhead, and begin a jog back to the car.

In all, it takes me about half an hour to run the mile or two to the Boquet River trailhead, quickly change my clothes, and then drive back up to the others. The whole hike had gone off in quite a well-oiled manner, I thought. Thanks to all of you, and especially congrats to Alana. You've doubled your 46R summit count in just one day!
