One final note about the Kalalau Trail: although all of the signs say '11 miles' total distance, I don't think that is correct: I did a pretty accurate measurement with four individual GPS tracks (one in each direction with two GPS units, and averaged out the values). It appears as if the actual distance, from trailhead to a point midway along Kalalau Beach, is actually just under 10 miles. This figure accounts for all of the little ins-and-outs and switchbacks along the trail.
