Adelia makes the top.
The summit was an ice-encrusted wonder. The weather observatory, seemingly unoccupied, was half-coated in rime ice and hard snow. We loitered for a little while, enjoying the beautiful late afternoon views.

It had become clear to us at this point that we were too far behind schedule to attempt Esther, which we could see clearly from our summit vantagepoint. Dang! That's 2 46er peaks missed so far since the beginning of this year! As an additional safety measure, given the time, we decided to hike down the Whiteface Memorial Highway (closed in the winter) down to the hike end-point. This was a boring but surefire way of getting back before things got too late.

The way down was relatively uneventful, long and boring... except for some horsing around where Pu and Caroline wrestle, resulting in the destruction of one of Caroline's snowshoe bindings.... so, the rest of the way down, Caroline had to bare-boot it - fortunately the road had good footing and was often solid enough to walk on easily. We arrived back at the car at about 6:40pm! A 30minute wait for the car shuttling to take place, and we were off to Saranac Lake for another victory meal at chez Pizza Hut!
