Beautiful Carter Ridge Trail
The trail north south from Mount Moriah is much nicer than I had expected. It more or less follows the ridgecrest, and where the ridge is broad it often goes through scenic open areas. Where the ridgecrest is more narrow it often follows the edge of spectacular cliffs. Very very nice! And with excellent views of the Northern Presidential range just across the valley.

Steep Bluffs between Moriah and North Carter
Although the original plan is for us to cross over North and Middle Carters and then come down the Imp trail, we decide to alter our plans. Yi is still getting comfortable with travel on snowy, icy trails. Our progress was therefore not as fast, and it would not have been prudent to try and fit in another peak. So we take an alternate descent (the stony brook trail) which brings us more directly down the road. Soon we are below the snow line and the trail becomes a quite pleasant late fall walk. Markus, Caroline and I walk a bit faster so we can get a head start on fetching one of the cars (since neither of the cars is at this particular trailhead, so we have to walk an extra distance along the road to get one).
All in all, a beautiful late fall day hike in the Whites. I look forward to coming back and tackling other peaks on Carter Ridge. And, only 47 days to go to Kilimanjaro!
