FUN FUN FUN
Just look at this great bit of road. Unfortunately, I did not have a car in the dolomites (we were riding in Brian's car), so I did not get to _really_ explore them. Still, I just had to take a picture. [enlarge]
LORRAINE AND BRIAN, LATEMAR
This shot was taken on our first hike/via ferrata outing, which was in the Latemar group of peaks. [enlarge]
REFUGIO
This is the Refugio Torre di Pisa (The 'tower of pisa hut'). It was closed, like every other thing in the dolomites while we were there. [enlarge]
BRIAN's ORTHOPEDIC ROCK
Brian, as usual, falls asleep on an 'orthopedic' rock. Brian does this kind of thing on just about every hike we go on. [enlarge]
THE LATEMAR GROUP
This shot shows the broad expanse of the high basin that is encompassed by the Latemar Group. The Via Ferrata (Iron Way) that we were aiming for is at the other end of the basin. [enlarge]
DOLOMITIC TOWERS
This is a view of the trail as it winds through typical terrain encountered in the dolomites. [enlarge]
ALPINE CHOUGH
This is an Alpine Chough (pr. chuff) Bird that bugged us continuously for food. [enlarge]
VIA FERRATA and TORRI DEL LATEMAR
This is a view towards the start of our via ferrata for the day. [enlarge]
CLIMBERS ON VIA FERRATA
This is a closeup of the via ferrata. Note the Climbers making their way along it. These particular climbers were confident and sure-footed enough to not use any gear at all. [enlarge]
TYPICAL FERRATA SETUP
This shot shows a typical via ferrata cable, along with the two self-locking carabiners that are attached to my special dynamic belay harness. [enlarge]
LORRAINE ON VIA FERRATA
Lorraine, shown here performing well on her very first Via Ferrata. [enlarge]
ROSENGARTEN GROUP
This is a shot taken from a break in the Torri del Latemar, looking north and east towards the Rosengarten Group. [enlarge]
BRIAN ON VIA FERRATA
This is a shot of Brian on the Via Ferrata. [enlarge]
BRIAN ON VIA FERRATA.
Another shot of Brian, showing the steepness of the terrain. [enlarge]
YOURS TRULY
A rare shot of myself, helping Lorraine with a bit of the route. [enlarge]
LORRAINE, MOUNTAIN LASS
Lorraine tentatively moves around an outcrop of dolomite. [enlarge]
DIKE
One of the many dikes that we had to traverse on our route for the day. This one was particularly hard to climb out of, since the opposite side was basically a vertical wall. [enlarge]
