We started down the connector trail, bound for the valley below. The descent along this trail is a long one, falling in a continuous and mostly constant descent from 4350 feet all the way down to about 1700 feet. A bit boring, but livened up by a good philosophical conversation between Mirek, Johanna and myself.
At the bottom was yet another excellent water feature on a hike that had already featured several excellent water features: Beaver Meadow Falls, looking resplendant in delicate, multi-tiered and multi-streamed glory. The soft, even light of the day enhanced the delicate tracery of it.
After the falls, we crossed the Ausable River, took another connector trail back to the road, and then hiked down it until we returned to the gate, finally somewhat dried out. We signed ourselves out and continued the last bit through the golf course, arriving back at the cars around 7:15pm.
Julie and the others had quite a stash of food and booze in their vehicles, and an impromptu little tailgate party ensued. However, various biting insects soon crashed the party, and it wasn't long after that that we said our goodbyes and headed back to Ottawa, quite pleased to have met a great bunch of interesting personalities.
Thanks, guys, and I'm sure we'll hike again soon!
