I could tell that everyone was getting a little tired and looking forward to the end of the hike. The New Russia trailhead is pretty low in elevation for an Adirondack trailhead - well under 1,000 feet ASL, so we still had a long way to descend from Bald Peak's 3,000 foot summit. Those among us with tender knees looked a little unhappy.
The descent went well, however, and we quickly descended past the last few excellent viewpoints and into the trees. We opted to avoid going over Blueberry Cobble in order to effect a more direct descent. Soon we were down into dark open forest and wide, gentle trail. A straightforward march brought us back to the New Russia trailhead at
Many thanks to all, including to Pu for inviting us on his group hike, and to Bill and Judy, for allowing us to share in your fantastic achievement that day. What an interesting coincidence that we should meet up in the exact same spot as our first meeting, and on the date of your last 46er peak! Hope to hike with all of you again soon!.
