The third and final peak on our agenda for today is Mount Tom. We are fortunate in that the elevation gain from the low point between Field and Tom and mount Tom's summit is only about 300 feet, and it all goes by fairly easily. Mount Tom's summit is normally fully treed in, but there is a large blowdown area at the summit that provides good views in about a 270-degree arc.
End of the Willey Range Trail
The hike down to Crawford Notch is a bit hard on Luke's knees, which have started to act up. Fortunately, the amount of descent is quite a bit less than the ascent, and it really doesn't take all that long before we're down at Crawford Notch. The original estimate was that this hike would take us about 6 hours, and we came in at about six hours and ten minutes. Not too shabby!
