Rankings and ratings explained |
Utah 12 and 24 is a grand drive across a whole different range of desert (and some mountain) scenery. It is very remote; it passes by or through three excellent national parks and monuments. This road is often in the top 10 of North America's best scenic drives.
Despite having three major attractions along it, I have never found these highways to be that busy with traffic. The road surface is of high quality along the entire length of both roads.
There are really only a few good sections of twisties along the entire 250km length of this highway; the best of which is the section between Escalante, UT and Boulder, UT, where the road winds down fantastic slickrock, through a narrow canyon, and along the crest of a narrow ridge. Also of note are the medium speed sweepers in the high country north of Boulder, UT.
Oh, and, by the way... Bryce Canyon, along UT 12, is a spectacular must-see quick stop.
