Rankings and ratings explained |
Crater Lake is the remnant Caldera of a massive Volcanic eruption millennia ago. What is left now is an amazingly beautiful clear, deep blue high altitude lake surrounded by crumbling volcanic cliffs.
The Crater Lake National Park Rim drive weaves along the crest of the crater's edge, with innumerable viewpoints along the way.
The drive is generally only moderately twisty, except for one little excellent section on the southwest side that is very twisty. Pavement quality is good. There is a lot of tourist traffic, and the speed limit is not posted very high, so any traffic you do get caught behind is likely to be pretty slow. Overall, this drive is more about scenery than it is about the twisties, frankly.
