Back over the summit, back down the bare terrain to the nearby treeline. It was rapidly warming up, and soon I delayered right down to a t-shirt and single-layer pants. I did a tiny bit of side-exploring on the way down, trying to see if there were some additional good lookouts, but otherwise had an uneventful descent. Many of the usual morning hikers asked me if I had spent the night (I guess my big pack made it fairly obvious).

I arrived back at the trailhead shortly before 9:30 a.m. - an eleven-hour overnight outing on the summit of Ampersand. Not many meteors, but still a very enjoyable experience. Might have to do this sort of thing more often!
