Washington in the Distance
It isn't long before we finish the fun scrambling and arrive at the top of Whiteface. Well, not really the top, because at this point we are technically only at the south summit, with the main summit a little ways beyond. Still, this is where we stop for our lunch. The south summit has a fair bit of open rock, and good views to the south
Back down to where we started
After lunch, we begin our traverse over to Passaconaway on what is called the Rollins Trail. Along the way, the trail passes over the true highpoint of Whiteface (nothing to write home about), and continues north and down to the col between the two peaks. The trail is quite pleasant, with mostly good footing and isn't eroded. In places, it skirts the edge of the round basin that is nestled between Whiteface and Passaconaway. With the exception of a few lookouts, this portion of the trail is in the trees.
