Waiting for Shipment

Luke and I then returned home to Canada. But our story was not over yet, of course, because the twin 718s of The GTS Chronicles had not yet arrived. And oh, how we missed them.

Luke and I had affixed Airtag trackers in our cars, allowing us to see progress. We checked and refreshed many, many times over the next few weeks. We watched as the cars travelled north on a truck to the port of Emben, then were loaded onto the Siem Confucius Roll-on/Roll-off car carrier, and then made the week-long journey across the Atlantic to arrive at Autoport in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The LNG-powered Siem Confucius Roll-on/Roll-off vehicle carrier, which carried our twin GTS 4.0s across the Atlantic during the latter half of August, 2023.

Our cars sat at Autoport for several weeks, before finally being loaded onto a train headed west to Toronto. Fortunately the train left a day or two ahead of a large hurricane that was barrelling towards the Halifax area.

A Second Delivery

By the end of September, our cars had arrived in the greater Toronto area and were offloaded to a regional yard. They were then shipped by truck for the final few hundred kilometres to Porsche Centre London - our dealer (it is a long story as to why our dealer was so far away from our home city, and you can read about that if you like in the long version of our story). A week or two after that, fully prepped and washed and ready for their new lives in Canada, we hopped on a train and were reunited with them on October 13.

The Final Surprise

There was one final important task to complete before we could declare The GTS Chronicles Euro Delivery adventure complete: the "Boxster Surprise Reveal". The story here was that Luke's parents had long supported and encouraged his sportscar enthusiasm. They knew Luke dreamed of one day having a car like a Porsche Boxster, but it had never been something seriously considered - until, of course, I approached Luke in the summer of 2020. Soon into the project we realized that we could create a very special moment by carefully hiding Luke's purchase from his parents - not by lying but by simple omission. Their minds would do the rest, as they would likely assume that Luke was simply going to accompany me on a trip to receive my Cayman. Then, finally, we tell Luke's parents that we are going to show up with Andrew's new Cayman (which of course they were keen to see), but instead of one gleaming red 718 GTS 4.0 driving up their driveway, two of them show up - and one of them is Luke's new Boxster!
Drive to Surprise
Now, Luke's parents lived in the province of New Brunswick, some distance from central Canada. Fortunately, the late October weather co-operated and we were granted a warm sunny weekend in which to hold the surprise ceremony. We made the journey east, hid the two cars near the entrance to their long driveway, and I ran up and set up the cameras to record the event (I'm always photographing and recording stuff, so they thought this was pretty normal). I ran back down, we fired up the cars, and slowly we rumbled up the driveway together. It took them a few beats to realize that "that second car" wasn't Luke's Red 2002 Honda S2000. No, no, no...

"When did you do THAT...!!!???", Luke's mom proclaimed.

That, we told her, was a long ... a very long ... story. But a darn good one.
The Grand Reveal
The Surprise has been Sprung
If for some reason you are seized with the desire to know all of the ins-and-outs of our trip - many, many of which I have glossed over or skipped entirely in this shortened telling, then I welcome you to read the "full" report, which consists of an introduction and three "books" - each of which are quite long.

  • Introduction (this one is self-explanatory)
  • The Lead-up - An extensive accounting of the three years of work that led to our Euro Delivery Adventure.
  • The Delivery Adventure - The long-form telling of our time in Europe, receiving the cars and then driving them for twenty days on European roads.
  • The Post-trip - Tells the details of the important events (related to our adventure) that occurred after we landed back in Canada.
