Pre-Delivery Activities in Stuttgart

Finally, on the 18th of July, 2023, about thirty-seven months after I first floated the idea past Luke, we were both in Stuttgart, ready to experience the sportscar nirvana that is the Porsche European Delivery Experience. Keen-eyed readers may have already observed that July 18 can also be written as 7-18. Fate, anyone?
For the first couple of days, we toured the Porsche facilities in Stuttgart: the museum, the factory. The usual stuff. We were also privileged to experience more than the usual: our friend Dave from Porsche Motor City in Detroit had put us in contact with various key figures at Porsche A.G. and we were welcomed to visit the Porsche FLB club in Weissach, with none other than the head of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur - Bernd Stadler, AND... we were also given a separate very special tour of the Sonderwunsch center in Zuffenhausen, where customized special request models are completed and delivered. Many thanks to Dave, to Bernd, to Pino and Simone, for taking time out of your days to show a couple of starry-eyed car geeks from Canada some very special stuff.

We then hopped on a train to Leipzig, where we checked in to our Porsche-arranged room at the luxurious Steigenberger Grandhotel Handelshof. We then spent a relaxing pre-delivery evening in the old center of town, celebrating the eve of our most momentous day.

The following day, at about noon on July 20, we arrived at the Porsche Center in Leipzig and began our delivery day, where we took another factory tour (of the Macan / Panamera production line), had a wonderful lunch, toured the local museum, had a one-hour track session (not with our own cars, but with identical demo models), and then, the piece-de-resistance... the unveiling of our twin Carmine Red beauties. I felt numb at the time, such had been the build-up to this long-awaited moment. Luke and I stood in front of two gleaming red Porsches. Porsches that we were about to take on a multi-week grand road trip.
