A Tropical Sunset
Sunset at Hapuna Beach State Park
Friday, March 2
After doing a bit more driving up and down the Kohala coast, we decided to head back to Hapuna Beach park to watch a tropical sunset. We arrived about 30 minutes before sunset, and already the sun was beginning a scenic orange-sky'd descent towards the ocean. The beach had mostly cleared out again - all of the sun worshippers had disappeared.

Collection of Sand Pinnacles
As we waited for the sun to get lower, we noticed a family near us on the beach making a most interesting sand castle. It wasn't your typical sand-bucket mold type of thing. Instead, they were carefully dribbling out streams of wet sand into steep-sided piles. This created very tall, narrow, pointy cones of sand. They had made a large number of them, some big, some small - clustered strategically in a semi-circle. It looked like an alien world's royal palace - in minature, of course.

I took many pictures of both the sunset, the sand castle, and the two together, and you can see some of these pictures on this page.

The Blood Orb Setteth
We struck up a chat with the family that had made the sand castle, and I promised that we would send them some high quality pictures of their creation. A little something for them to remember their fun on the beach one Friday evening at Hapuna Beach State Park!
