Looking back towards palace
A grand view of the palace of Caserta from far away in the palace gardens. The sculptures in the foreground are part of the Fountain of Venus. [enlarge]
The Large Cascade
This is a large artificial waterfall from high up on the hillside. The water flows down into a basin, or pool, surrounded by some impressive statues (depicting an interaction between the mythical figures Diana and Actaeon). [enlarge]
Diana Bathing
Diana, surrounded by nymphs, prepares to bathe. Little does she know that Actaeon is watching..... [enlarge]
Actaeon hounded
This is the Actaeon side of the sculpture, showing Actaeon, having been turned into a stag, about to be attacked by ravenous hounds. (This is in punishment for having seen Diana bathing in the nude). [enlarge]
Grand Palace from afar
A good telephoto shot of the palace, as seen from the pool of Diana and Actaeon. [enlarge]
Cherubs, Fountain of Venus
The Cherubs form the foreground while the royal palace forms the very distant background. [enlarge]
