Normally there would be a long steep ladder here at the beginning of the steep pitch on Armstrong's eastern approach. Today it is totally filled in with firm snow. It is hard to properly capture the steepness of this bit of terrain. Suffice it to say, it is fairly steep (probably 50 degrees?)
