Ancient Shoreline?
On a section of Coastal Trail that is slightly inland, we come across a field of clearly-rounded (i.e. eroded by shoreline wave action). We suspect that this is an example of a "raised beach" - a former shoreline of the Lake now raised far above actual water level due to changing water levels and by isostatic rebound post-glaciation.
