The brilliant clear sky above us allows us to spot this jetliner, moving southwest above the Adirondacks. It turns out that this is Lufthansa flight 440 from Frankfurt to Houston (which for some reason is flying very far from a great circle route today). This is an Airbus A380 - the largest passenger airliner in the world (probably why it seemed so prominent as it flew by).
