Below all of the [mostly] flat-lying horizontal sediments of the Grand Canyon, you eventually come to this - the "Basement Rocks" underlying everything - a complex of very old, highly metamorphosed rocks known collectively as the Vishnu Metamorphic Complex. Granites, Gneisses, Schists. OId, hard, and twisted.
