Mangled bridge remains
These twisted girders are a bit of what remains of the original Skeiðarárbrú - a long bridge that spanned a section of the Skeiðarársandur outwash plain. In 1996, a volcanic eruption spawned a massive glacial outburst flood that wiped out the bridge. A new bridge has since been constructed.
