The archway in front of St. John's basilica provides a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the perspective-altering capabilities of the shift function of a tilt-shift lens. Part II: a shot using the lens' shift function to compensate for the perspective effect. Note the lines of the vertical elements in this picture, and how they are straight up-and-down.
