Three hours after starting our hike, we arrived at treeline, where a misty open landscape greeted us. We could see, faintly through the mist, patches of snow in the distance. Winter lasts long at these high latitudes!

With no views to speak of, and with the drizzle transitioning into outright rain, we decided to find the nearest patch of level ground to pitch camp for the night. We picked a spot not too far off the main route, figuring (correctly, as it turned out) that the chances of seeing anyone else in weather like this was pretty much zero. Hastily erecting my old MEC Tarn 3, we climbed in and set up our sleeping gear out of the rain.

Finally, a few hours later, just as the sun was setting, the rain let up. All was still outside, and for a few minutes before the light faded, we could see a few patches of sky overhead.
