Compatibility Issues
The design of this web
site has given consideration to cross-browser compatibility. For the
most part, this has been achieved. Compability tests have been performed
with the following browser/operating system combinations:
- Windows
[NT 4.0, 2000, XP]: Firefox (v1.0, v1.07, v1.5, v2.0)
- Windows
[98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP]: Internet Explorer (v5.0, v5.5, v6.0,
v7.0)
-
Windows
[98]: Netscape Navigator (v4.6x, v4.75, v4.79, v6.1, v6.2.1, v7.0,
v7.1)
- Linux
[Fedora 8]: Firefox (v1.5, v2.0)
- Linux
[RH FC4]: Firefox (v1.0, v1.5, v2.0)
- Linux
[RH7.1]: Netscape Navigator (v4.78)
- Linux
[RH7.1]: Konquerer (v2.2.1)
- Linux
[RH7.1]: Mozilla (v0.9.2.1, v0.9.7)
- Linux
[RH7.3, 8.x]: Mozilla (v1.0, v1.4)
The following exceptions/non-consistent
behaviours have been noted (to date):
- Older
web browsers (versions of IE before v5.5, versions of Netscape
including and before v7.0) probably will not work with many of
the newer AJAX/Javascript/DHTML features of my web page (e.g. the
google maps API integration).
- The Image
Gallery web pages use javascript for popping up image enlargements.
You may notice a slight oversizing of the margins of popup images
when using Internet Explorer (v5.0, v5.5).
- With some
compound HTML table constructs, Netscape Navigator (all versions,
platforms) incorrectly displays background images. This flaw is not
service-affecting.
- Netscape
Navigator v4.x can take a looong time displaying nested tables on
certain pages.
- Strange
problem with Mozilla (0.9.x?) regarding middle click: strange interaction
with javascript popups - recommend only using left click with popups
and this browser. Besides, middle-click means 'open in new window'
which is not needed with popups in the image galleries on this web
site.
- Mozilla
(0.9.x) and Konquerer (v2.2.1) have some trouble with the way I've
arranged text input fields - they are out of alignment.
- Mozilla
1.0 (tested on Linux only) has a problem displaying the calendar month
popup in my Date Entry Picker elements (e.g. on the Adirondack High
Peaks Page climbing log search).
